JERSEYS

We love jerseys.

Before 'bloke-core' took over the internet, we were entranced by the palpable allure of the collegiate athletic look - leaving school mid class fully kitted in emblems and stripes -  coming back with a muddy win - taking victory laps around a packed classroom - being that boisterous team of polyester-clad school celebrities is unforgettable, and for good reason.

We’ve grown up playing sports and engrossed in football and cricket culture something just about everyone in our country can relate to. Down to every last gully and by-lane, the Indian obsession with sport is evident. Researching raglans, We came across my parent's vintage gymkhana and school jerseys from the 70s and 80s - collared and emblazoned with crests and accolades. More important than the pieces themselves were the way they were preserved proud relics of play, that still carry with them that inimitable nostalgia. Few garments are capable of holding that amount of lore.

There are plenty of great jerseys, but there’s only a handful of Indian jerseys that come to mind when talking fashion iconography - and that rubs us the wrong way. Like any of our clothes, we wanted to explore the jersey through a vintage Indian lens - looking to iconic sports photographs, vintage gymkhana and club jerseys, school jerseys from ours and our parent’s time - trying to capture that bygone but ever-prevalent look of vintage sportswear. Front and centre to our jerseys is our Devanagari branding in the sponsor position - solidifying their subcontinental identity. We’ve had a great time designing vintage emblems - choosing to reference gilding from vintage Indian stamps (naturally) for the borders of our classic lapel emblem for our Postage jersey. Our Heritage jersey sees patterned vines creeping up a sublimated raglan, while its dark blue counterpart traces an embroidered floral around the hem. Kits unstuck from time - in the midfield between vintage and contemporary.

Our reasons for getting into jerseys are ultimately very simple - we love them, you love wearing them, and we want more iconic Indian jerseys out there jerseys that do justice to the stories they hold.
